If actors are the flowers, stagehands are the light.
When that light goes out, the stage turns pitch-black.
At the backstage entrance of Daikoku-za, Yoshimura—a kyōgenkata stagehand—keeps the theater running with easy charm, while quietly taking his future with Ryōko to heart. Kawamura, the head attendant, has spent years as the “shadow man,” devoted to his master, Ichikawa Shōjirō. And Shō, the rising young star, carries the weight of inheriting a celebrated name—caught between love and the path of an actor.
One night, rumors that Shō has “someone” become impossible to ignore. Shōjirō orders Kawamura to settle the matter—to make the breakup happen. But the task tears at Kawamura’s chest: should he protect his master’s future, or his own sister’s tears? Meanwhile, Yoshimura too is forced to stand his ground, caught between a stagehand’s pride and the feelings he can’t easily speak.
What begins as laughter and bustle at the backstage door gradually ignites into a fierce resolve to “live for the stage.” Love, legacy, and loyalty—front and back of the theater—collide, and yet the curtain moves forward into the next act… toward a choice that binds hearts rather than breaks them.
