【あらすじ】

終戦から間もない舞鶴。

焼け跡の町には、戦争で傷ついた人々の沈黙と、帰らぬ家族を待ち続ける者たちの祈りが残っていた。

そこへ、一人の米兵がやって来る。

名は、高木藤雄。ハワイで生まれた日系二世でありながら、アメリカ軍の軍服を着て、父母の祖国・日本に降り立った男である。

日本人の血を持ちながら、日本では敵と呼ばれる。

アメリカ人として生きながら、アメリカでも日本人として見られる。

二つの国のあいだで揺れる藤雄は、敗戦に傷ついた舞鶴の人々と出会い、自らの心にも深い問いを抱えていく。

憎しみ、誇り、母への想い、そして故郷とは何か。

海を越えて届いた“アロハ”の心。

Maizuru, not long after the end of the war.

In a town still scarred by fire and ruin, there remained the silence of those wounded by war—and the prayers of those still waiting for family members who would never return.

Then one American soldier arrives.

His name is Fujio Takagi. Born in Hawaii as a second-generation Japanese American, he sets foot in Japan wearing the uniform of the U.S. Army—the land of his parents and ancestors now before him as a defeated nation.

Though Japanese blood runs through him, in Japan he is called an enemy.

Though he has lived as an American, in America he is still seen as Japanese.

Caught between two countries, Fujio encounters the people of war-torn Maizuru and begins to confront the deep questions within his own heart.

Hatred, pride, memories of his mother—and what it truly means to have a homeland.

Across the sea comes the spirit of “aloha.”

Hidden within the cherry blossoms blooming on the hills of Maizuru is the untold story of a second-generation Japanese American.
