Edo-period Osaka, Tenjinbashi. Two fishmongers run side-by-side shops with the same name—older brother Ichirō and younger brother Jirō—locked in a feud as stubborn as oil and water. Jirō is convinced his brother “killed their mother,” and every encounter turns into a fight. That bitterness even spills into the love life of Jirō’s daughter, Osayo.
Just then, the Tenjinbashi district is ordered to relocate for bridge repairs, and both livelihood and home begin to shake. A marriage arrangement becomes the next spark: the young merchant Harukichi steps back, saying that if the parents remain at war, the shop’s noren (reputation) will be stained. For the first time, Osayo’s tears pierce Jirō’s pride—and he crosses the threshold of his brother’s house, long avoided.
Stubbornness, misunderstandings, sharp tongues—until a single letter left behind by their mother quietly brings the truth into view. Beyond what they thought was lost, what “happiness” can two brothers still find?
