【あらすじ】

江戸・両国。

腕は立つがツキに見放された職人と、店の大金を落として途方に暮れる若い元結（髪を束ねる紐）の職人・文七。

年の瀬、川風の冷たい橋の上で出会った二人は、互いの「もう戻れない」事情を抱えていた——ひとりは娘を遊里から取り返すための五十両、もうひとりは店を潰しかねない預かり金。

絶体絶命の夜、思いがけない“手放し”が、誰かの明日をつなぎ直す。

金は巡り、義理と人情が行き交う江戸の町。やがて「元結」は、ただ髷を結ぶ紐ではなく、縁と約束を“もとい（元結）”に戻すしるしとなって——物語は、軽やかな笑いと温かな余韻で結ばれる。

Edo, Ryōgoku.

On a year-end night, a skilled yet down-on-his-luck craftsman crosses paths on the chilly bridge with Bunshichi, a young maker of hair cords (mottoi/元結), who has misplaced his shop’s money.

Each carries a “no way back” burden—one needs fifty ryō to redeem his daughter from the pleasure quarter; the other has lost a deposit that could ruin his employer.

In that desperate hour, an unexpected act of letting go quietly stitches tomorrow back together.

Money circles, and Edo’s streets hum with duty and human kindness. In the end, the “mottoi” is more than a cord to tie a topknot—it becomes a sign of bonds restored, of promises tied anew—leaving the tale with gentle laughter and a warm afterglow.
